Estancia San Juan Shooting

Hunting and shooting at San Pedro offers a variety of game that makes Uruguay a very unique destination not only in South America, but anywhere in the world. It is a rare treat for the wingshooter that hunters can enjoy the pursuit of an upland and marsh mixed bag in the same day, each and every day.

Each morning you will hunt wild partridge or perdiz in short grass pastures, and over English setters, or depending on wind and weather, the morning hunt could include ducks and big wild pigeons; both are hunted by decoys on ponds or in fields nearby. In the afternoons, volume dove shooting is on the shooting schedule, and normally doves are encountered– in large numbers– on a flyway enroute to a roost or very near a big roost that is just minutes from the San Pedro Estancia. However, when planning your shooting holiday to Uruguay, please consider these seasonal limitations as a guideline:

  • ›› Perdiz hunting runs May 1st to July 31st
  • ›› Duck hunting runs from May1st until September 15th
  • ›› Pigeons generally run from May 1st to September 15th
  • ›› Dove shooting is available and productive year round

Your host and guide will be with you to provide you with challenging shooting, and bird boys will also be there to provide other necessities such as shotgun shells, refreshments, and anything else you may need. shooting. Each evening you will return to the lodge for cocktails and dinner. Drive time to hunt locations is usually between 10 and 35 minutes for the perdiz, ducks, or pigeon fields, and from 5 up to 35 minutes for the dove.

TRAP OR SHEET SHOOTER’S SHELL BAG - attaches to your belt – especially handy for dove and pigeon shooting

SHOOTING GLOVES - important item to protect hands from hot shotgun barrels and nicks and blisters from reloading, breaking guns or activating safeties. Golf or batting gloves are a good substitute if you can’t find quality, sensitive leather shooting gloves.
